| 27" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4670 | I bought iMac couple days ago in an authorized shop in Prague. As a newcomer to Mac, |i was surprised how noisy the computer (hard disk/CPU fan -do not know) is. When I returned it back they told me it was normal. Well, I do not think it is normal and will probably call once again for guarantee repair |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz NVIDIA 9400M | Yellow tinge lower right of screen, very annoying, and screen whistles when brightness lowered to 50% or so. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | There are at least 3 spots that change dark intensity from different view angles near the right top of the screen that are nearly certainly dust trapped under the screen. Other than that, it's beautiful, but you could fry eggs on top of the case - it gets realllly hottttt. But only the top of the case. |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4670 | I got my first iMac with 3 dead pixels, 2nd iMac replacement with 1 dead pixel but on the center of the screen. Now awaiting my 3rd iMac which took me 2 weeks time of waiting. |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | Grumbling drive |
| 27" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4670 | Hard drive makes a rattling noise every few seconds. The rattling noises become louder when you open something. It seems normal for this type of hard drive considering all of the reports. |
| 27" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4850 | Really anoying HDD rumbling all the time. My iMac is going to be replaced. |
| 27" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4670 | The hard disk seems to make a "cracking" or "tapping" noise all the time. |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | Continuous rumbling hard drive. Really annoying. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | The bottom and left side of the screen has a warmer(yellowish) tone. This is visible when a white/bright background is set. |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | i had few hard drives in my life time of use but never ever had a hard drive as noise as this Seagate I'm very disappointed to find out that i can't have a WD drive put in as there is something with a cable that connects to the hard drive that monitors temperature |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | No problem to date |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | Backlight bleed at bottom of screen. Uneven yellowness throught enitre screen. Screen replaced under warranty but new screen is even worse than old one. |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | Small particles of dust collecting behind the display glass. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | Rumbling HDD |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | when using the mac for a while, it sometimes crashes... with no alternative but to force shutdown. An on screen button, window, or animated flash on a website or similar will turn into a gradient filled box which is green red and black, a bit like those you get if using simple gradients in word or photoshop. music carries on playing in the background, downloads continue to make the hard disk whirr... but you can't actually do anything until you restart. |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | HD is really noisy. I notice it constantly. Whenever I am browsing I can hear the ticking noise for a couple of seconds, this restarts every time I navigate to another page or simply by typing text like I'm doing now or scrolling down. I realize this is with all HDs, but this one is pretty darn loud. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | Computer won't stay on - randomly shuts down and is very temperamental about booting again... |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz NVIDIA 9400M | I'm now on my 3rd 21.5 imac 1st one had a dead pixel out of the box 2nd one had a noisy hard-drive which the 1st one was not... 3rd one(present) has the same noise AND a dead pixel... Today, I'm going back to the store today to get a refund....I'm done with apple... |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz NVIDIA 9400M | High pitched squeal, and yellow tint bottom right of screen. Very annoying, refurb also. What do they do, just chuck it in a box and hope you won't notice? |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | First computer had yellow discoloration and flicker. Replaced by Apple. Second computer had worse yellow discoloration. LCD replaced by Apple. This LCD was even worse- again replaced, along with the video card. This LCD is the worst yet. Going back soon. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | It is a very slight flickering when brightness is adjusted around 65%. If I increase brightness a bit more the flickering seems to go away. When you just have a quick look at the screen you will not realize that kind of flickering. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | Yellow tinge on bottom. (Note: I waited three months to purchase my i7 to avoid this issue specifically) |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | Unlike the 24 inch iMac I have just replaced and which ran nearly completely silent, this new model is rather noisy and you can hear the disk almost constantly. It sounds like the disk is fine but it's just constantly busy and noisy. For this price I expect more. They make claims on the Apple web site that it has been tuned for quiteness and only generates 18 decibels (http://www.apple.com/imac/design.html). Certainly not in my case... |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | Displaced Screen. About 5 Pixel Down. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | Displaced Screen. About 5 Pixel Down. |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz NVIDIA 9400M | I bought my 21.5" iMac from an Apple about a month ago. Since I've had it I started getting really bad headaches and the feeling that the point exactly between my ears and head were going to implode. At first I thought it was the brightness issue so I kept it down to about 30-50%. Upon further observation I noticed that it has been making an extremely high pitched sound almost like that of a dog whistle. In searching the internet I came across many forums stating that the noise was caused from turning the brightness down low. I then turned my brightness to about 80-100% and the brain piercing noise stopped, but the brightness is burning my eye sockets out of my head so now I'm kind of in the same boat due to eye strain. This high pitched noise has caused me to become really dizzy and my blood pressure rises very high shortly after about an hour of of use. I really hope there is a fix for this soon. The iMac is a beautiful computer but this issue is driving me insane. Please fix this issue before something bad happens to me or anyone else with sensitivities to noise. |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz NVIDIA 9400M | turned in my computer 3 times for yellow color in the lcd. This is acceptable now, but ended up with fingerprints behind the screen glass and a whistle when adjusting the brightness |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | Everything is perfect except the Yellow Discoloration in the lower third of the Display. |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | HD rattling when loading programs, surfing the web, etc. Very annoying. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | Perfect machine for the first month (April) and then then came the yellow discolouration, multicoloured bands and flickering. I wouldn't be quite so annoyed if it happened at the edge of the screen because then it would still be usable but i have to put up with a six inch wide multicoloured band right in the middle of the display! I'VE GOT WORK TO DO!!!! |
| 27" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4670 | 4/29/2010 - Did system auto update and after doing so and restarting, the fan was on all the time. Tried suggestions from all kinds of forums with no luck in fixing. Finally, I downloaded "iMacSMCUpdate.dmg" from http://supportdownload.apple.com and restarted. System restarted and fan back to normal. I don't know if this was intended to fix my issue, but I was willing to try anything and got lucky. Hope this helps someone with the same issue. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | After 4 hours the power supply shuts down. Back left corner is good for cooking on. Its back with Apple now |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz NVIDIA 9400M | Imac 21.5" No. 1: Wouldn't awaken from sleep if left for more than an hour. Full restart was required to wake it up. Didn't check that one for screen tinge. Went through 4 wireless keyboards, caps light would randomly not illuminate when on, decided it must be a deeper issue than just the keyboard and exchanged for new unit. Imac No. 2: No sleep issue, however same problem with the keyboard, noticed yellow tinge in middle third of screen. (Only after reading a thread on the subject, but once noticed, I always saw it). Took it back again. Imac No.3: Yellow tinge lower third of screen, was going to soldier on as I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of changing again, but then the keyboard problem struck again and it bugged the hell out of me. Common denominator: All the units were from late 2009. Shop where I purchased only had more late 09 models, so I currently have the cash on a store card waiting for a new batch where hopefully these issues are resolved. Sort it out apple!!! |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | 1. Small dent in top left area in aluminium case 2. Scratching DVDs 3. Some dust inside TFT panel, between color layers and backlight canvas!!! |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | I have had two i5 iMAC 27" machines in two weeks here in the UK, 1st one powered up, ran for 8 hours and then after a power down on next switch on the screen was blank and the fans were racing, then it died. Got a second replacement and it is still running but the SuperDrive (not sure why it is super!!) does not work, Apple said take it back again. Been using PC's since the IBM PC, and the most unreliable machine I have ever purchased is my £1600 iMAC 27" i5, two failures out of two. Looking at Dell's website today think I here a new i7 with Windows 7 calling to me, |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz NVIDIA 9400M | Seems the iMac has NO Problems at all (Fingers crossed) |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4670 | For some reason I can't choose the right hard disk but I have a Hitachi (if I'm to trust the "About My Mac" section on my mac...) 1TB. Well, my hdd is constantly making noise, even when I'm doing absolutely nothing. It's just about as loud as a coffee maker if I had to describe it as something; nothing too loud to be startling, but nothing too quiet to give me peace of mind (and the fact that it's constant). It's not too hot at all, iStat assured me of that, and it's not the fans since I've tinkered with them and it's fine. Now, this problem started after I (stupidly...damnit) put my computer to sleep with my external harddrive connected, then turned off the external drive. The computer livened up and told me not to do that. After that, the external drive was still visible but I wasn't able to access it (or even eject it). I couldn't even shut down my computer without forcing it (holding power button for 5 seconds). Thing is, I kinda figure since I recovered my old data, maybe my harddrive is just getting full and needs to run all the time to be ready? I had finished copying tons of data, taking up a solid 300GB of space, maybe it's a coincidence I ejected it when it was asleep and now it's making sound? Either way, I'm gonna back up the data and call apple. It's a very new computer, we're talking maybe 2 months, if that. |
| 27" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4670 | Noisy Hard Disk, Yellow Discoloration at the bottom of the screen |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | Yellow discoloration in lower third of screen. Also screen sometimes doesn't turn on after sleep. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | I am on machine #5 27" iMac since the original delivery Feb. 1, 2010. Apple has given me a replacement on ever return, but they have all had the yellow screen. I asked them to check the last one before I picked it up from the Apple Store to make sure I was walking out of the store with a sound machine. But when I got there, they said "the screen is a little yellow on the bottom, but should satisfy your expectations". NOT! |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4670 | Rubbish! Yellow screen (big patch bottom right hand side) Hard drive constantly hums. Reseller very helpful but how did this ever pass quality control? Looks like reseller got delivered very old stock by Apple. Are they keeping later builds for their own stores? |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | HD is constantly grumbling |
| 21.5" 3.06/3.33GHz ATI 4670 | Yellow tinge on lower right middle of screen. Most visible on while background. Also, screen is not quite properly aligned. Minor issue, caps lock key does not function properly. |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | iMac i5 often unstable, lagging, freezes |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | The yellow is there, but I can deal with it. There's also a grey line across the bottom inch of the screen, which again, I could let go. The bigger problem is the noisy hard drive. I've used older PCs that were quieter than this. And this is my third model of this machine, so I don't appreciate all these people who say it's an isolated incident - that sounds more like a planted Apple rep to me. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | A constant grumbling |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | The first i7 had subtle yellow discoloration on the right lower screen and a very subtle horizontal gray shadow at the bottom right of the panel. The Apple Genius Bar replaced this display with a supposedly "redesigned display". This display was worse than the first one I had in terms of yellow discoloration. I returned the machine and Apple sent me another. To my dismay, this one is the worst of the three. There is a prominent gray horizontal shadow across the entire lower screen and subtle yellow tinge to the right half of the display. I have no faith that Apple has done anything to rectify this. I am considering asking for a full refund. |
| 27" 2.8GHz i7 ATI 4850 | First one had dead pixels and dust under glass. Returned. Second screen is blue at top vignetting to yellow at bottom + Dead pixels (W80120). Ordered a 3rd that just arrived but that has 2 vertical yellow bands running down the screen (W80131). Unsure what to do. |
| 27" 2.66GHz i5 ATI 4850 | No noticeable screen or other hardware problems. |
